Travel approximately 5 miles south of Telluride , CO on State Highway 145. Turn east on Forest Road #632 (Alta Road) and climb about 4.3 miles, pass the Alta townsite. Camping is allowed only in designated campsites . General Notes: Hiking, horseback riding, and mountain bike trails are nearby. Winter snowmobiling trails are nearby.

The maximum length for this free dispersed campground is 22′, however we were able to fit in a 24′ motorhome + crew cab truck. The campground is really small, and if you’re in a rig with solar, there’s one suitable spot site #11, at the back of the campground .
First-come, first-serve dispersed camping . 11,000 ft. altitude near the top. DIRECTIONS- Alta Lakes Road off CO-145 South of Telluride . Took twenty minutes from Telluride to Alta Lakes Road then another 30-40 minutes to drive the rugged 5-mile dirt road to the top.
11/5/2020 · Lizard Head Pass Dispersed Camping ( Telluride , Colorado) Save This campsite is directly across the road from the Lizard Head Trailhead. The dirt road in can be a little rough, but you won’t need a 4×4 to get in. These are basic primitive sites that can accommodate RVs, vans, and cars for tent camping . The views here were beautiful.
