Hammerling Experiment On Acetabularia Involved Exchanging

In his experiments, Hammerling grafted the stalk of one species of Acetabularia onto the rhizoid of another species. In all cases, the cap that eventually developed on the grafted cell matched the species of the rhizoid rather than that of the stalk. This experiment shows that the base is responsible for the type of cap that grows.

10/29/2018  · J Hammerling (1953) carried the grafting experiments involving exchange of nucleus (located at the base) in Acetabularia. He proved the role of nucleus in heredity, growth, etc.

Acetabularia used in Hammerling’s nucleocytoplasmic experiment is unicellular uninucleate green algae. Hammerling’s experiment of Acetabularia involved exchanging rhizoid and stalk. Presence of hereditary information in the nucleous was proved by the work of Hammerling .

Hammerling’s Acetabularia grafting experiment that established nucleus as the store house of hereditary material. Hammering’s grafting experiment using Acetabularia cleared all speculations and confirmed the role of nucleus in heredity. His experimental material Acetabularia is a large single celled, uni-nucleate alga.

4/15/1968  · From this experiment , Haemmerling concluded that in Acetabularia the shape of the cap is determined by a morphogenetic substance produced by the nucleus 4 .
